An hour after setting off on the search Wilson successfully dropped the airborne lifeboat 50 yards downwind and within five minutes the occupants of both dinghies had reached it. The survivors lashed their dinghies to the lifeboat and appeared to be well, though they made no effort to start the engines or raise the sail. Having reached the limit of endurance Wilson dropped delayed marine markers to assist relief aircraft to locate the lifeboat and turned for home, landing at Docking in the dark. With the departure of the Hudson Jerome Wodin and the rest of the Jurnecka crew were left in the airborne lifeboat.
